About

Welcome to RecPad 2016, the 22nd edition of the Portuguese Conference on Pattern Recognition, sponsored by the APRP (Associação Portuguesa de Reconhecimento de Padrões - Portuguese Association for Pattern Recognition).

This year RecPad is held at the University of Aveiro, on October 28, 2016.

Authors are invited to submit two (2) pages of extended abstracts on topics such as artificial intelligence, image processing and machine vision, covering theoretical and/or applied work. All papers will be reviewed "double blind", normally by two members of our Technical Program Committee. The reviewers will judge the submissions on originality, theoretical and/or experimental results, and presentation. The accepted papers will be compiled and distributed only in electronic format.

RecPad 2016 is a single track meeting with only poster presentations and one keynote speaker.

Call for papers

RecPad 2016 is the Portuguese Conference on Pattern Recognition, sponsored by the APRP (Portuguese Association for Pattern Recognition). RecPad 2016 will take place at University of Aveiro, on October 28th, 2016. It is a one-day conference, with an invited talk and poster sessions.

RecPad 2016 promotes the collaboration between the Portuguese scientific community in the fields of Pattern Recognition, Image Analysis and Processing, Soft Computing, and related areas with example topics such as:

  • Biometrics
  • Character recognition
  • Classification clustering ensembles and multi-classifiers
  • Data mining and big data
  • Feature extraction, discretization and selection
  • Fuzzy logic and fuzzy image processing
  • Gesture recognition
  • Hybrid methods
  • Image description and registration
  • Image enhancement, restoration and segmentation
  • Image understanding
  • Information theory
  • Intelligent systems
  • Machine vision
  • Neural network architectures
  • Object recognition
  • Pattern recognition applications
  • Sensors and sensor fusion
  • Soft computing techniques
  • Statistical methods
  • Syntactical methods

The works should be submitted as extended abstracts for consideration by the Technical Program Committee. The accepted papers will be compiled and distributed only in electronic format. The program of the conference is designed to allow travelling to Aveiro in the same day of the conference.

It is an ideal time for socializing and sharing experiences between young and senior researchers, showcasing their work and looking ahead to the future.

Invited Speaker

Joan Serra Sagristà
Joan Serra Sagristà
Remote sensing data compression

This talk describes recent developments in several areas of remote sensing data compression. The first part of the talk will introduce the current status of Earth Observation missions and the need for efficient data transmission, where data compression plays a significant role. The second part of the talk will be dedicated to onboard compression of remote sensing data, in particular to recent and ongoing work developed by the main space agencies. The third part of the talk will introduce some of our own recent developments in this field.

Short biography

Joan Serra-Sagristà (IEEE Senior Member 2011) received the Ph.D. degree in computer science from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), Spain, in 1999. He is currently an Associate Professor at Department of Information and Communications Engineering, UAB. He holds the Accreditation as Full Professor from both Spanish ANECA and Catalan AQU Catalunya. From September 1997 to December 1998, he was at University of Bonn, Germany, funded by DAAD. His current research interests focus on data compression, with special attention to image coding for remote sensing and telemedicine applications. He serves as Associate Editor of IEEE Trans. on Image Processing and as Program Committee co-chair for IEEE Data Compression Conference. He has co-authored over one hundred publications. He was the recipient of the Spanish Intensification Young Investigator Award in 2006.

SUBMIT

The papers should be submitted via EasyChair. The submission is done in four steps: set up an account with EasyChair, enter a paper title and abstract, and finally upload your paper. Please be sure to read the formatting instructions. Some common questions about submission can be send via the contact form. Submitted papers should be prepared according to the published specification for formatting and style.
